$275K bond for 2 charged with robbing elderly couple in Gold Coast
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Two men were ordered held on $275,000 bonds after they were charged with robbing an elderly couple at gunpoint in the Gold Coast neighborhood Monday morning.
John Davis-Diming, 19; and Bryan Martin, 18, were each charged with one felony count of armed robbery with a firearm, according to Chicago Police.
About 10:14 a.m. Monday, the men approached a 69-year-old man and 70-year-old woman in the 0-100 block of East Delaware, showed a handgun and demanded the woman’s purse, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.
The woman gave the purse to one of the men. As they left, the man tried to grab the strap but fell in the process, Scaduto said.
Officers saw Davis-Diming and Martin running down the street after a doorman who witnessed the incident helped the victims and called police, Scaduto said.
Police recovered a .32 caliber gun with one live round. One of the men also had .22 caliber rounds in his pocket, Scaduto said.
The Far South Side men allegedly admitted to police they took the train in and decided to rob the couple.
Davis-Diming, of the 100 block of East 122nd Place,; and Martin, of the 12100 block of South State, were ordered held on $275,000 bond Thursday. They were next scheduled to appear in court July 12.
