3 dead, 1 critically injured in I-57 crash

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Three people were killed and a man was critically injured in a crash early Saturday on I-57 on the Far South Side.

A red 2012 Chevrolet car crashed into the back of a semi at a high speed at 3:18 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 107th Street, according to Illinois State Police. The driver, 19-year-old Julius J. Green, was dead at the scene.

Two passengers, 19-year-old Precious M. Horace and 21-year-old Monteene D. Taylor, were also killed, state police said. Horace was dead at the scene while Taylor died at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A third passenger, a 21-year-old Chicago man, was in critical condition at Christ Medical Center, state police said. All four of the Chevrolet’s occupants were Chicago residents.

All northbound lanes were closed for investigation after the crash, but were reopened by 7:20 a.m., state police said. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
