3 in custody after South Side chase, crash that injured 4
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Three people are in custody after an Auburn Gresham police chase that ended with a crash injuring four people, including an elderly couple and a child, according to Chicago Police.
The car took off when officers in a squad SUV tried to pull it over for a minor traffic offense about 12:15 p.m. in the 8300 block of South May, police said.
As the officers chased the car, it blew a red light and hit another vehicle at the intersection of 83rd Street and Racine, police said.
A 9-year-old boy and 28-year-old woman walking nearby at the time of the collision were hurt. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital and the woman to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, both with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.
The 69-year-old woman and 72-year-old man in the vehicle struck at the intersection were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
Officers found a weapon and drugs inside the car they had tried to pull over, and three people inside it were arrested, police said. Charges were pending Tuesday afternoon.
