5 people hurt in separate overnight shootings across Chicago

Five people were shot and injured in separate overnight shootings across Chicago between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Most of the shootings took place on the city's West, South, or Southwest sides. Two appeared to be drive-by shootings.

The victims ranged in age from 22 to 37, according to Chicago police.

  • The call for the first incident came in around 10:15 p.m. from the 1600 block of South California Avenue in the Douglas Park neighborhood where a 22-year-old woman was walking outside and a bullet grazed her head. She took herself to Stroger Hospital where she was listed in good condition. A preliminary investigation found she was shot by an unknown person who was traveling in a black SUV.
  • The second call came in at 12:08 a.m. after a 33-year-old woman was shot in the leg while walking outside in the 5400 block of South Maryland Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. Police said someone shot her while traveling in a black sedan.
  • The third call came just minutes later at 12:10 a.m. when a 32-year-old man in the 4800 block of West Armitage Avenue on the Northwest Side was shot in the arm. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.
  • Around 2:45 a.m., a call came in about a 37-year-old woman who was shot in the head while riding as a passenger in a car in the 5300 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Gage Park. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
  • The final call came in around 4:30 a.m. for a 37-year-old man who was also traveling in a car in the 3600 block of South California Avenue in Brighton Park, heard gunshots and was hit in his left leg. He was taken by paramedics to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

As of around 7 a.m. on Sunday, no one was in custody in connection with any of the shootings.

Chicago police are investigating each shooting.
