GARY, Indiana (Fox 32 News) - Gary Police said seven people were shot at a jazz club Sunday morning.

The shooting happened at Dirtty’s Jazz and Blues Club in the 4600 block of Melton Rd. at about 2:30 a.m. Police said the shooting was isolated and had a person in custody while they were trying to find another.

Those shot included four men—ages 28, 26, 22 and 22; and three women—ages 28, 24 and 20, Westerfield said. The 26-year-old man was in critical condition as of Monday afternoon, and the other six victims’ had been stabilized.

An eighth person, a male of unknown age, suffered a leg injury while trying to get to safety.

Just down the road from the club is the gas station where Marisol Valdes works. She said she’s visited Dirtty’s before, but that she wasn’t aware of any previous issues.

“They have a security guard, they check your id at the door when you're coming in,” Valdes said.

The club opened in 2014, according to its website, which bills it as a full-bar venue attracting local and national jazz talent.

Valdes said she is now unwilling to return the club.

“How are you going to explain that seven people got shot?” said Valdes.

The shooting took place just a few miles away from where police said a security guard was shot at a separate club last month.
