82-year-old woman fatally struck by Metra train in Wilmette

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - An 82-year-old woman was fatally struck by a Metra train Wednesday morning in north suburban Wilmette.

Zenobia W. Ciesielska was walking eastbound along the north sidewalk of Central Avenue at Green Bay Road at 7:55 a.m. when she walked around downed train gates and tried to make it across the tracks, according to Wilmette police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was struck by inbound Metra Union Pacific North Line Train No. 320, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:26 a.m., authorities said. The Wilmette resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy Thursday found she died of multiple injuries, and her death was ruled an accident.
