Arlington Heights man charged with shooting at repo workers: police

An Arlington Heights man is accused of shooting at two people he thought were trying to steal a semi-trailer.

The incident occurred on Jan. 12, around 5:30 p.m., at 2200 South Busse Road.

What we know:

According to Mount Prospect police, the two victims were in the process of repossessing a semi-trailer when Michael Hrycyk, 71, fired a shot at their vehicle. The bullet struck their truck, but no injuries were reported.

When officers arrived, they located Hrycyk inside his parked truck in the same lot. A handgun was also recovered.

Hrycyk reportedly told officers he believed the trailer was being stolen and fired the shot to stop what he thought was a theft. A shell casing was discovered at the scene, and a bullet hole in the victims’ truck corroborated the story.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony charge of attempted first-degree murder.

Following a detention hearing on Jan. 14, Hrycyk was released on electronic monitoring.
