Aspiring rapper found dead in Riverdale recording studio

FOX 32 / SUN-TIMES - The body of an aspiring local rapper was found Monday in a south suburban recording studio after being reported missing for nearly three weeks.

The victim was identified as 27-year-old Jeremy Nixon, a local rapper who goes by the name Boss Status Duke.

Authorities found the badly decomposed body Monday night behind a washer at a Riverdale recording studio and residence near 140th and Eggleston.

A shooting took place at the same building on Nov. 15, a day before Nixon was reported missing. Riverdale police took a report of the shooting but no authorities entered the building.

Nixon's family told FOX 32 they are upset with the Riverdale Police Department, saying if police had entered the building they may have found the body sooner.

An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the back in a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

“The Riverdale Police Department is conducting an internal review of our response to the 911 call in an attempt to determine if any violations and or deficiencies occurred by responding units,” according to a police statement. “There will be no rush to judgment as the internal review is ongoing.”

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is handling the homicide investigation.
