Boy shot by Chicago Police after 'armed encounter' in South Shore

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A boy was shot by a Chicago Police officer Friday in the South Shore neighborhood.
Just before 1 p.m., Grand Crossing District officers were conducting a robbery mission in the 7200 block of South Merrill when they saw a suspicious vehicle circling the block, Chicago Police said in a statement Friday evening.
Two males got out of the vehicle and an “armed confrontation” ensued as they were approached by officers, leading the officer to shoot, police said. The boy, whose exact age was not released, was struck in the buttocks and taken to a hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
A weapon was recovered at the scene and both males were taken into custody.
The shooting is under investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and the officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, per police department policy.
