Trainee driver crashes bus into river, prompting massive rescue

A crash that landed two vehicles in a major European river was caused by a bus driver in training, according to local officials and multiple reports. 

The crash prompted a major rescue, but everyone is safe. 

Four people were onboard, including the driver, her instructor and two passengers. 

What they're saying:

The local transport authority told the BBC that a trainee drove a bus into the River Seine after hitting a parked car and veering off the road.

Juvisy-sur-Orge Mayor Lamia Bensara Reda said the bus dragged the parked car with it into the water.

It happened Thursday in Juvisy-sur-Orge, some 12 miles south of Paris.

Images published by the official Facebook account of Juvisy-sur-Orge show the bus and car submerged in the river.

Later in the ​morning, ​the ⁠bus could still be seen ​floating in the ​Seine, ⁠close to the riverbank, Reuters reported
