Cubs fans celebrate historic win at Wrigley Field

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The "W" is flying high this morning over Chicago, and the city's beloved Cubbies are the talk of the town!

Of course, Fans were partying up on the North Side throughout the night after the Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals to advance to the National League Championship Series. 

For the Chicago Cubs and their ever-hopeful fans, this was a long time in the making. Only once since they last brought home the World Series in 1908 had the Cubs won a playoff series and never before had they finished off the job at their century-plus-old ballpark.

Here at FOX 32, we were back to work early to capture some of the excitement. But it's clear that many Chicagoans had a long night of celebrations. 

Before the game was over, fans who didn't even have tickets jammed the streets outside of Wrigley Field, waiting to celebrate the team winning its first ever postseason series at the Friendly Confines.

And the playoff magic was flowing both inside and outside the ballpark. And although Cubs fans were living it up on the North Side, all the partying was in good fun.  Police don't have any reports of major problems from the long celebration.
