Dozens of homes damaged after massive fire breaks out in NW Indiana

HIGHLAND, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Families homeless in the freezing cold after flames tore through an apartment complex Friday afternoon in Highland, Indiana.

The call came in at the Hampton Apartments in the 9500 block of Hampton Drive about 3:15 p.m. It took eight fire departments nearly four hours to make sure the flames were put out.

The Red Cross is helping people find housing for the night, anywhere from 75 to 100 people.
