Elderly man killed in hit and run in suburban Morton Grove

MORTON GROVE, Illinois (Fox 32 News) - Police in a suburb of Chicago are looking for the hit and run driver who killed a man on Friday night.

Leo Belogur, 86, was crossing Shermer Road at Greenwood Street when he was run down.

Belogur immigrated to the United States in the 1980's, and family say he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. His family released a statement saying, "It is a tragedy that someone can have so little regard for human life as to hit a human being in a crosswalk and just keep driving. Leo was a wonderful father to three kids and grandfather to seven children. He will be incredibly missed."

Neighbors agreed.

"A nice person," said neighbor Boris Ladzhensky. "A gentleman."

Belogur's family is offering a $10,000 reward. Police believe the vehicle involved in the crash may have significant damage to its front end and/or windshield.
