Feds: Bank robber turns himself in after Christmas Eve heist in Chatham

CHICAGO (STMW) - A bank robber gave himself up to police two days after he and an accomplice held up a Chatham neighborhood bank at gunpoint Christmas Eve on the South Side, according to federal authorities.

Davonyay Pratt and the other robber were wearing ski masks when they walked into the TCF Bank branch at 233 W. 87th St. about 12:30 p.m. and announced the robbery, according to a federal complaint filed last week in U.S. District Court.

They brandished a handgun and forced an employee to let them into a secured area behind the counter, where they emptied multiple cash drawers and made off with $3,897, federal prosecutors allege.

The morning of Dec. 26, Pratt turned himself in to police in south suburban Calumet City. He was turned over to FBI investigators, and he later admitted to taking part in the robbery, prosecutors said.

Pratt, whose age wasn’t available, remains held at the downtown Metropolitan Correctional Center pending a status hearing.

The second robber is still at large. Anyone with information should call the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
