Hit-and-run driver goes wrong-way on Lake Shore Drive, causes 2nd crash: cops

A driver is accused of being involved in two crashes early Thursday morning on the North Side, including when she drove the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive.

A 19-year-old woman driving a silver Toyota was involved in a crash with another vehicle about 7:15 a.m. near Thorndale Avenue and Broadway Street, according to Chicago Police.

Shortly after the crash, she drove off and got onto the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive going the wrong way, police said. Less than 15 minutes after the initial crash, she crashed her Toyota into a black Mercedes in the 4200 block of North Lake Shore Drive near the Uptown neighborhood.

The 19-year-old and the driver of the Mercedes were both taken to hospitals with minor injuries, police said. The driver in the initial crash declined medical attention.

Police said the 19-year-old was in custody and would likely face a number of traffic citations.
