Indiana foster mom sentenced for 10-year-old boy's death

Foster Mom Sentenced

What we know:

An Indiana foster mother convicted in the death of a 10-year-old boy last year has been sentenced.

Jennifer Wilson will serve six years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with one year suspended for probation, prosecutors said Friday.

Wilson was accused of causing the death of Dakota Stevens, who was in her care.

The St. Joseph County Coroner's Office ruled Stevens' death a homicide.

The backstory:

On April 25, 2024, officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Falcon Way in Liberty Township, near Valparaiso, for a medical emergency.

When police arrived, they found Stevens and transported him to a local hospital, where he died two days later.

The coroner's office said Stevens died from "mechanical asphyxia."
