Lawndale shooting leaves 1 dead

A man was shot and killed Thursday night in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood.

The backstory:

The 35-year-old was traveling in a car around 11:30 p.m. when shots were fired at him by someone who was on foot in the 1200 block of South Sawyer Avenue, according to police.

The victim was shot once in the torso and head. He tried to drive away but struck two parked cars. He was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner's office has not yet identified him.

No arrests have been made. Area Four detectives are investigating.
