Man charged after fighting 3 people outside Glen Ellyn hotel

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A man armed with a gun was charged with aggravated assault and battery after fighting with three people outside a hotel Wednesday morning in west suburban Glen Ellyn.

At 6:45 a.m., police responded to a call of a fight involving a man with a gun at the Bugetel Inn at 677 Roosevelt Rd., according to Glen Ellyn police.

Officers ran after a man who tried to run away towards Panfish Park, and saw him throw objects into the pond, police said. The Naperville Police Department’s Underwater Rescue Team assisted with a search and recovered evidence from the water.

Officers learned that David J. Abdulkarim, 27, confronted three people with a handgun and one tried to fight him off. After the fight, he took a cellphone and ran away, police said.

Abdulkarim, of the 1300 block of Tall Oaks Lane in Wheaton, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, battery, aggravated assault, theft, resisting a peace officer and attempted obstructing justice, police said

He is being held in the DuPage County Jail.
