Man charged in Jewel parking lot shooting in Munster

MUNSTER, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -  An 18-year-old man has been charged in a shootout which wounded a woman in a grocery store parking lot Sunday night in northwest Indiana.

Witnesses told investigators several shots were exchanged between at least two groups of people in the Jewel parking lot in the 700 block of Ridge Road in Munster, Indiana about 10 p.m., according to a statement from Munster police.

A woman in her 20s was taken to a hospital with a graze wound to the back of the head, police said. Her injury was not thought to be life-threatening.

Markdaniel Martinez, of Hammond, Ind., was charged Tuesday with two felony counts of criminal recklessness, according to a statement from Munster Police.

The front window of the Jewel was shot out and several vehicles were also struck by gunfire, police said.
