WAUKEGAN (STMW) - A man has been charged in connection with a “crash and grab” burglary last week at a gas station in north suburban Waukegan.

Marshall Devalle, 28, was charged with burglary and criminal damage to property, according to a statement from Waukegan police.

At 3:30 a.m. March 9, four suspects crashed a vehicle into the Marathon station at 901 W. Glen Flora Ave., then stole cigarettes, liquor and cash from the business, according to Waukegan police.

Officers reviewed video and provide descriptions of the suspects to surrounding police departments, police said. Lake Forest police officers saw the vehicle in their jurisdiction, and determined the car was stolen out of Chicago. The vehicle did not stop and evaded officers, police said. The vehicle was then seen in Highland Park, but officers were again unable to stop it. Chicago Police later found the vehicle, but it was unoccupied.

Devalle was arrested early Wednesday after he was spotted driving northbound on Route 41 in Highland Park, police said. A pursuit ensued and stretched through Lake Forest and into Lake Bluff. The vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Waukegan, ended up crashing into a ditch during the pursuit and Devalle was subsequently apprehended.

Devalle, who lives in the 600 block of North Avenue in Waukegan, is also a suspect in the Saturday theft of a pizza truck from Chicago. At the time of his arrest, he was also wanted on a warrant for violating his parole.

He has been ordered held at the Lake County Jail on a $75,000 warrant and is next scheduled to appear in court March 22.
