A man died Monday after the vehicle he was driving struck a Metra train in southwest suburban Oak Lawn.

About 7:40 a.m., Arthur Hornsby drove through the crossing gates at 98th Street and Central Avenue and struck the train, according to a Metra spokesman.

Hornsby, 59, was taken to Christ Memorial Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and the Metra spokesman. He lived in the 9200 block of Massasoit Avenue in Oak Lawn.

All bells and lights were properly working on the train, the Metra spokesman said. Trains began moving again by 9 a.m.
