CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man was shot early Saturday on the Stevenson Expressway in west suburban Berwyn.

The 22-year-old man was driving in the center lane of southbound I-55 north of Central Avenue at 6:18 a.m. when a silver Volkswagen pulled up to the right of his vehicle and someone inside started shooting at him with a black handgun, according to Illinois State Police.

The man suffered four gunshot wounds to his “lower extremities” and pulled over onto the right shoulder, police said. He was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn in serious condition.

The Volkswagen was last seen exiting the Stevenson onto Central and driving away southbound, police said.

All southbound lanes of I-55 remained closed as of 8:30 a.m. as police continued to investigate.
