Motorcyclist critically hurt in Aurora crash

A motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash Tuesday morning in west suburban Aurora.

The crash happened about 5:40 a.m. at Ogden Avenue and Commons Drive, according to Aurora police.

A 57-year-old Naperville woman was driving a 2016 Honda CRV east on Ogden and turning north onto Commons when the SUV collided with the westbound motorcyclist, police said.

The motorcyclist, a 55-year-old Yorkville man, was thrown from the bike, police said. He was initially taken to an Aurora hospital, then airlifted to a Chicago hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet.

The woman had to be extricated from the SUV but declined medical treatment, police said. She was issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left.

The intersection was closed for about four hours after the crash for the investigation.
