The North Avenue pedestrian bridge over Lake Shore Drive will reopen Thursday evening, after being closed for two months for repairs.

The 268-foot bridge will reopen to pedestrians and bicyclists at 6 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement from CDOT. It has been closed since April 11 for removal and replacement of the bridge deck and girders to ensure it was ready for a high volume of beachgoers this summer.

The pedestrian bridge was originally built in 1940 and the last major work done on it was in 1991, CDOT said.
