Popular Logan Square bookstore to close, citing financial challenges
CHICAGO - Chicago’s nonprofit literacy organization, Open Books, announced it will close its Logan Square bookstore in March.
What we know:
The Logan Square location will permanently close its doors March 1, citing financial and operational challenges.
The decision comes after less than three years in the neighborhood, where the store opened in 2023 to provide books, literacy programs and community spaces.
Executive Director Jennifer Steele emphasized that the closure is not a reflection of staff, volunteers, or the neighborhood’s support, but a necessary step to protect the nonprofit’s broader mission.
What's next:
Open Books will continue to operate its West Loop and Pilsen locations and encourages supporters to shop, donate, and engage with upcoming programming.
