Robber with hammer takes $40K in gold from Pilsen pawn shop

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Someone stole about $40,000 in gold from a Pilsen pawn shop in a smash-and-grab robbery Wednesday morning on the Near West Side.
The suspect walked into the pawn shop in the 2300 block of West Cermak about 9:50 a.m. and used a hammer to smash a display case, according to Chicago Police.
He was described only as a black male wearing a black cap, black and blue shirt, and dark jeans.
The shop owner told police the man got away with about $40,000 worth of gold, police said.
