Thornton Township board votes to fire Tiffany Henyard's boyfriend, another employee after meeting brawl

The Thornton Township Board of Trustees voted Thursday night to fire two employees, including Supervisor Tiffany Henyard’s boyfriend, Kamal Woods.

This comes on the heels of a violent brawl that occurred at a township board meeting last month.

What we know:

Woods and another employee, William Moore, who is a Henyard ally, were reportedly fired on Thursday.

The altercation began during a Township meeting on Jan. 28 when community activist and Henyard critic Jedidiah Brown told her, "You gone, b--ch."

Woods then confronted Brown, sparking a scuffle, which led to Henyard pushing her table aside, running to the back of the room and joining the fight.

Remote Meetings Request:

In the aftermath, Thornton Township attorney Michael Del Galdo requested a waiver of the Open Meetings Act from the state, seeking permission to hold meetings remotely for safety reasons.

Del Galdo wrote to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul, urging them to approve Zoom meetings.

"We are concerned not only for the safety of the public, but for reporters who attend, for elected officials and staff themselves that there would be a repeat of what occurred last Tuesday, which was a fight, to understate it. It was more than a fight and it could have been a real catastrophe. So, we're asking for the governor to allow for remote meetings," Del Galdo said.

As of now, Del Galdo has not received a response.

The next Thornton Township meeting is scheduled for three weeks from now.
