CHICAGO (STMW) - Three people were hospitalized after an apparent carbon monoxide leak at a dry cleaners in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side on Friday afternoon.
Firefighters and police responded just after 3 p.m. to the cleaners in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt, according to Chicago Fire Chief Juan Hernandez.
The initial report was of a robbery or battery because the three people, males of unknown age, were seen lying on the floor, Hernandez said.
However, carbon monoxide was found at 700 parts per million and a Level 1 HazMat response was called. Hernandez called that level “very high.”
The three were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, but all are expected to survive, Hernandez said.
