Two injured when squad car hit by vehicle on Tri-State shoulder

HICKORY HILLS (STMW) - Two people, including an Illinois State Police trooper, suffered minor injuries when a squad car, pulled over to make a traffic stop, was struck by another vehicle Monday morning on the the Tri-State Tollway near southwest suburban Hickory Hills.
The trooper, who was driving an unmarked squad car, was pulled over for a traffic stop on the left shoulder of northbound I-294 near 87th Street about 11:11 a.m. when his car was struck by another vehicle, according to a statement from ISP.
The trooper and the driver of one of three other vehicles involved were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The incident remains under investigation, and charges are pending against at least one other driver, police said.
All lanes of the northbound Tri-State remain open.
