Two men charged with robbing Oak Lawn bank of $114K

OAK LAWN (STMW) - Two Chicago men held up a southwest suburban bank at gunpoint last week, making off with more than $114,000 before they were arrested the next day.

Terrell M. Norwood, 18, and 19-year-old Xavier C. Baker walked into the US Bank branch at 10270 S. Central Ave. in Oak Lawn about 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

One of them held bank employees and customers at gunpoint in the lobby, while the other forced an employee to open the vault, federal prosecutors claim.

They made off with $114,038, prosecutors said. No one was hurt.

A relative recognized one of the accused robbers on a television news broadcast that night and alerted authorities, the complaint says.

They were arrested the next day and charged with bank robbery. Both are being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center downtown.
