Two seriously injured in Oriole Park propane explosion

CHICAGO (STMW) - Two people were seriously injured in a propane explosion Friday afternoon in a house in the Oriole Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

They were working on a home remodel about 4:15 p.m. in the 7800 block of West Rascher when the gas from one of their cutting tools ignited, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

The workers, whose ages and genders were not immediately known, were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in serious-to-critical condition, Langford said.

They suffered hand and face burns from a flash fire caused by the explosion as well as concussions from the gas, according to Fire Media Affairs. A large window was also blown out.

Fire officials were still on the scene investigating the cause of the explosion Friday evening.
