Pair charged in violent Red Line robbery

CHICAGO - A man and a teenage boy allegedly attacked and robbed a CTA Red Line rider early Sunday on Chicago's South Side.
Deangelo Smith, 27, and the 17-year-old, who has not been identified due to his age, were allegedly part of a group who violently robbed a 26-year-old man around 2:42 a.m. on a train near the 79th Street Station, according to police.
Both suspects were taken into custody minutes later in the same block. They were charged with robbery, aggravated battery of a transit passenger and unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
Smith has a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
