West Side fire causes partial roof collapse in vacant building

No one was injured in a fire early Tuesday at a vacant building in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Crews were called at 4:20 a.m. to the fire in the 4700 block of West Van Buren, according to Fire Media Affairs. They arrived to find fire on the first and second floors.

The fire caused the collapse of the building’s back porches and part of the roof, fire officials said. A small exposure to the building to the east has since been put out.

No injuries have been reported, according to the fire department.
