Wheaton show choir escapes bus fire, wins competition

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) -- Two female show choir groups from a suburban Chicago high school are celebrating their success at a competition in Wisconsin after one of their charter buses burst into flames along the way.
Wheaton Warrenville South High School show choir director Kelsey Nichols says the bus caught fire Friday night as it was traveling near Portage, Wisconsin. She says about 50 students safely evacuated the bus, but they lost many of their belongings, including costumes and musical instruments.
The choir groups decided the show must go on, so they piled onto the remaining bus headed for the Onalaska High School Show Choir Classic.
The groups performed in borrowed costumes Saturday, winning first and second place in their respective divisions.
