Woman dies after being struck by hit-and-run vehicle in Austin

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Police are searching for the driver of a car that sped off after fatally striking a 52-year-old woman early Monday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Annette L. Crosby was in a crosswalk about 6:15 a.m. when the white, mid-size sedan hit her in the 5300 block of West Chicago, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Autopsy results released Tuesday found she died of multiple injuries from the crash, and her death was ruled an accident.

Crosby was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died within the hour, authorities said. She lived in the 5400 block of West Iowa.

The car took off east on Chicago from Lorel, police said. Anyone with information should call CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
