Woman fatally struck by Metra train in Arlington Heights
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A woman was hit and killed by a Metra Union Pacific Northwest Line train Friday morning in Arlington Heights, halting service for several hours.
Train 626, scheduled to arrive in Chicago by 8:31 a.m., struck a pedestrian near the Arlington Heights station about 7:45 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.
All crossing gates were deployed and working properly when the woman “entered the path of the train and was subsequently struck” as the train crossed Arlington Heights Road, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police.
The unidentified woman “did not survive the collision,” police said. She was described as a Hispanic woman between 20 and 40 with black, curly hair, wearing a peach shirt, black pants and gray flip-flops.
Trains were temporarily halted in both directions after the crash, Gillis said.
Outbound service resumed shortly after 9 a.m., with trains operating up to an hour behind schedule, according to Metra. Inbound service resumed with delays about an hour later.
Investigators ask that anyone with information about the incident call Arlington Heights police at (847) 368-5300.
