Women's marches held in suburbs, big cities

GENEVA, Illinois (Fox 32 News) - A small women's march in Geneva, Illinois was one of hundreds of marches -- both small and large -- across the country on Saturday.

Newly sworn-in members of congress Rep. Lauren Underwood and Rep. Sean Casten joined the dozens who came out for the Fox Valley march.

Organizers said it's important to get these kind of messages in front of suburban audiences.

"In the suburbs, we don't always talk about things like race and tolerance," said Brenda Engelhardt, volunteer coordinator for We Can Lead Change. "This is the kind of thing that awakens people."

In Washington, D.C., tens of thousands participated in a women's march to push for equal rights and press to have President Donald Trump removed from office.
