From Joliet to Norridge and even in downtown Chicago, there was nowhere to hide from Monday night's destructive storm. Strong winds uprooted massive trees and power lines were knocked down across northern Illinois.

A person was killed when a tree fell on their house in Cedar Lake, Indiana, as powerful storms barreled through the Chicagoland area on Monday night.

Officials with ComEd outlined their plan to restore power to thousands of customers after a destructive storm and tornado system wreaked havoc on the Chicago area Monday night.

Much of the Chicago viewing area was damaged as severe storms moved through Illinois on Monday night. Allison Anderson, director of the Will County Emergency Agency, joined Good Day Chicago to talk about reports of damage in the southwestern suburbs.

A Joliet teenager woke up Tuesday morning to a large tree down on his new car. He's not the only one impacted by storm damage. Debris can be seen up and down several streets in the area.

A 44-year-old Indiana woman was killed Monday night after a tree fell on her home in the 8900 block of West 141st Lane in Cedar Lake, according to the Lake County coroner.

Three lanes were closed on Columbus Drive at Monroe Street due to a power line down on the road.

A Joliet couple was evaluating the damage to their home Tuesday morning after taking cover in their basement the night before. Strong winds sheared off countless tree branches and spread debris throughout their neighborhood.

ComEd has been working around the clock to restore power to customers across Chicagoland after rare severe weather system. ComEd's Neena Hemmady said at one point more then 430,000 customers were affected, but over night crews have restored power to 43%.

Several tornadoes reportedly touched down across the Chicago area Monday night. Fox 32's Roseanne Tellez made the trip out to Norridge where a massive tree landed on a home. From Chicago's city center all the way out to the Northwest Side there was a debris field with several downed branches and tree limbs.

The Chicago area was reporting hundreds of thousands of people troubled by power outages as severe storms pummeled much of the state Monday night.

As Fox 32 chief meteorologist Emily Wahls and meteorologist Mark Strehl delivered severe weather coverage Monday night, tornado sirens went off in the newsroom. Watch as they react to the warnings.

People also left the concert early because of the anticipated storms.

A tornado warning was issued for Cook County Monday night.

Severe weather has made it's way into the Chicago area.
