Chicago weather: Warm spell kicks off week ahead of icy storms
CHICAGO - You’re living large when the temperature is around 40 degrees in Chicagoland on Feb 3.
Chicago Weather Forecast
Although there might be some light fog around the area this morning, cloudy skies will not inhibit a warm-up. There will be a temperature spread across our area where, in the northern suburbs, highs will only be in the low 40s, while in our far southern viewing area, highs will soar into the mid maybe upper 50s. I think the official high for Chicago will be around 48 degrees.
Future Forecast
Timeline:
Tuesday: Tomorrow will be colder but still slightly warmer than normal under mostly cloudy skies. Then the forecast focus shifts to two winter storm systems, each of which has a potential to bring mixed precipitation. Both are leaning now towards having ice as their primary feature.
Wednesday: The first will arrive Wednesday p.m. and likely have some implications for the afternoon commute. There might be some liquid rain mixing in for our far-southern viewing area, but this looks to be almost exclusively freezing rain.
Thursday: This morning there might be some residual effects from whatever falls Wednesday night. The rest of the day will remain mostly cloudy with highs barely above freezing promoting only slight melting of any ice that has fallen.
Friday: Most of Friday looks quiet with highs in the low 30s, followed by the next storm system, which also favors ice going into Saturday. At this point there are two distinct computer forecast-model camps. The European suite of models looks very icy for both storms while the U.S. model shows barely any impacts locally whatsoever.
