$1 million bond for man charged with South Loop sex assault

CHICAGO (STMW) - Bond was set at $1 million Monday for a Bellwood man charged with sexually assaulting a woman early Saturday in the South Loop.

Jason Hooks, 20, faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault for the 3 a.m. attack, according to Chicago Police.

Hooks followed a 31-year-old woman when she got off a CTA Red Line train at the Harrison Street station, police said.

He grabbed her, hit her with a blunt object and then forced her to a secluded spot in the 600 block of South Plymouth where he assaulted her, police said. He then ran off with her purse, police claim.

The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

Hooks, of the 3500 block of West Adams Street in Bellwood, was ordered held on a $1 million bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is due back in court Dec. 7.
