18-year-old woman shot on Dan Ryan in Chatham

CHICAGO (STMW) - An 18-year-old woman was shot early Thursday on the Dan Ryan Expressway in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

The woman was a passenger in a vehicle that was chased onto the Dan Ryan (I-94) by another vehicle after the two groups got into an argument around 2:20 a.m. near the 7900 block of South Lafayette Avenue, Illinois State Police said. Someone inside the chasing vehicle fired multiple shots, hitting her once in the chest.

She was driven to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, and then transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center, state police said.

Lanes were shut down as troopers investigated the shooting, but had been reopened as of 4:45 a.m., according to state police.
