Law enforcement is investigating reports of animal cruelty after a video began circulating on social media that appeared to show a lifeless dog laying in the middle of the street before a man picked the animal up by its back leg.
The video was originally posted to Ring's Neighbor's app, with the caption, "Man throws dogs 50 feet high in the sky." The person who uploaded the video wrote, "He threw the poor dog high in the sky in the middle of the street. He thought no one saw him I stopped the car... He said it's his dog and the dog is dead, but I saw him with my own eyes launch the dog high in the sky like a horror movie."
The video, uploaded to the Neighbor's app on Tuesday, was taken in the 4000 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue in Carson. The video does not show the dog allegedly being thrown, however, it does show a man walk into the middle of the street and pick it up by its back leg.
Animal control disposed of the deceased dog on Monday.
Officials said that someone who saw the video filed a police report and provided the video.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Carson Station, detectives were able to identify the man in the video, and said, "The person of interest has voluntarily come forward" and added that they are cooperating with the investigation.
At this time, LASD believes that the dog was already dead when it was allegedly thrown.
The investigation is ongoing.
