Girl, 10, dies after exposure to carbon monoxide on NW Side, source says

A 10-year-old girl died after being exposed to carbon monoxide Monday morning in the Albany Park neighborhood, a source told FOX 32.

The girl was found unresponsive in a residence around 5:17 a.m. in the 3000 block of West Gunnison Street, according to Chicago police.

She was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner identified her as Jayrinne Sequeida.

Chicago police said detectives are conducting a death investigation, pending autopsy results.

Around 8:30 a.m., the Chicago Fire Department posted to X, warning residents of "the silent killer," carbon monoxide exposure.

"With the cold upon us heating systems will be running full-time. Please make sure your home is protected with CO alarms as required by law. If you are using space heaters, keep them 3 feet from furniture and bedding. Do not use extension cords and check smoke alarms," the post read.
