Investigators in Wilmington, Delaware are expected to charge as many as three teenage girls in the fight that killed a 16-year-old high school student. Charges are expected to come down as early as Friday.

Amy Francis-Joyner, died at the hospital following an assault in the bathroom at Howard High School of Technology.

A little more than a week after the incident, police say they have zeroed in on three female classmates who may be charged in the sophomore’s death.

According to police, the investigation has been slowed due to elements of the investigation that focused on social media. Police say the fight started over a boy.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reports at least one of the suspects could be charged with the actual murder, while the other two could be charged as accomplices.

Police say Amy was beaten by the girls inside the bathroom before being airlifted to the hospital where she died from her injuries a short time later.

Wednesday, a school spokesperson confirmed that the three students believed to be involved in the incident had not returned to school since the day of Amy's death. The school has previously said that they would await the conclusion of the police investigation to take further disciplinary actions against the alleged assailants.
