Chicago man sentenced for robbing postal carrier in Logan Square
CHICAGO - A Chicago man who robbed a postal carrier in Logan Square has been sentenced to more than four years in prison.
What we know:
Last week, a federal judge sentenced Donte Hughes, 34, to four years and three months in prison for the 2020 robbery, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois.
On March 31, 2020, Hughes and another person approached the letter carrier from behind as she was delivering mail in the 1900 block of North Albany Avenue. Hughes’ accomplice wrapped both arms around the carrier to prevent her from moving while Hughes reached into her pockets and stole official USPS property. The two then fled the area.
Hughes was arrested in 2024 and pleaded guilty last year to a federal robbery charge.
At the time of the robbery, Hughes was on probation for a firearm-related conviction in state court.
