Chicago's last Kmart to close in early 2019

Chicago’s last Kmart store will be closing its doors for good in early 2019

Sears Holdings Corporation, which owns Kmart and filed for bankruptcy protection last month, made the announcement on Friday.

The store, located at Addison and Kimball in the Avondale neighborhood, has been serving up slushees and flashing blue light specials since at least the late 1970s.

Sears Corp also owns the property, which takes up several acres next to the Kennedy Expressway and the Blue Line that's sure to draw interest from developers.

Shoppers we talked to are both nostalgic and sad about the store's end.
