Fire at Cook County forest preserve under investigation

A two-alarm fire broke out in a Cook County forest preserve Monday night.

What we know:

At 6 p.m., 15 fire departments responded to wildfire at Bobolink Meadow, part of the Forest Preserves of Cook County’s Orland Grasslands complex.

"Dry conditions and strong winds from the southwest pushed the fire northeast from Central Avenue and Flossmoor Road, burning more than 34 acres south of the Bobolink Family Picnic Area and west of the treeline before being fully contained by 8 p.m.," Carl Vogel, director of communications for the Forest Preserves of Cook County, said in a statement.

Vogel said the fire was limited to grasslands and downed trees, adding there should be little impact to birds or other animals.

The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.
