DHS: ICE officer on way home from work renders lifesaving care to driver involved in crash

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer on his way home from work is being hailed a hero after he helped rescue a seriously injured driver from a crash in Missouri.

What we know:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says ICE officer Curtland Sawyer was traveling home following duty at the St. Louis, Missouri Sub-Office when he witnessed the collision between a vehicle and a tractor-trailer outside of Festus, Missouri.

DHS says officer Curtland Sawyer witnessed the crash and performed lifesaving medical care on the motorist who was involved in the crash.(Department of Homeland Security)

DHS says Sawyer performed lifesaving medical care on the motorist who was involved in the crash, placing a tourniquet on the driver’s arm to stop life-threatening bleeding. 

What they're saying:

"ICE law enforcement officer Curtland Sawyer immediately delivered lifesaving medical care to a driver who was involved in a serious collision with a tractor-trailer in Missouri. Officer Sawyer is a hero," said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. 

Officer Sawyer stayed on the scene until emergency crews arrived.  Details on the crash have not been released.
