So far this weekend in Chicago, 4 people have been shot dead. One of the victims was Veronica Lopez, 15. She was in a car on Lake Shore Drive in the Lincoln Park neighborhood early Saturday when she was killed.

She was with a man in his 20's when a black Nissan pulled up next to them and opened fire.  The man is in stable condition with a wound to his arm and head.

Lopez was a freshman at North-Grand High School in Humboldt Park. There, friends said she was always trying to avoid these kinds of situations and that she was a good girl who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“We always kept busy, trying to stay away from trouble because we know how Chicago is,” said family friend Nikos Quintero.

On Saturday night, friends met at their high school to remember and honor her. They held handmade signs and released white and purple balloons.

The girl's family declined to comment on camera, but her mother took to Facebook Saturday morning, writing "I'm going crazy right now don't know what I'm going to do believe My Baby's Gone

“They were actually planning on moving out next year because of this reason, because of Chicago reason,” Quintero said.
