Illinois man sentenced to 14 years for distributing child sexual abuse material

A South Elgin man pleaded guilty Friday to disseminating child sexual abuse material and agreed to a 14-year prison sentence, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

What we know:
Kristofer Ray McMullen, 45, pleaded guilty to a Class X felony charge in Kane County court.
Prosecutors said McMullen sent a video depicting a child younger than 13 to an undercover computer operated by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Child Exploitation Unit on Jan. 8, 2025.
McMullen will serve 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections under the agreement. He has already received credit for 571 days spent in the Kane County Jail.
He also will be required to register as a sex offender for life under Illinois law. He is eligible for day-for-day sentencing credit.
Assistant State’s Attorney Amanda Busljeta said the case highlights the harm caused by distributing child sexual abuse material online.
